The reports at the end of 2025 have shocked the tech world. There are reports that the famous tech company ASUS is now preparing to create its own DDR5 RAM. The main reason for this is the ongoing memory shortage around the world and the ever-increasing laptop prices.
At the present time, large companies such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron are spending most of their production on creating AI servers and high-bandwidth memory (HBM). This has reduced the supply of ordinary consumer RAM, i.e. DDR5 modules, and the prices have increased manifold. As a result, laptops are going out of budget and gaming/gaming are becoming more common. Professional machines have become more expensive.
In view of this situation, ASUS has thought of taking this step. If the company makes its own DDR5 RAM, it will be able to get a stable supply chain for its laptops and desktops. This will reduce ASUS from relying on the market and will allow it to keep prices relatively stable for its ROG and TUF series of laptops. This will also provide better performance to consumers.
However, it's not as simple as it sounds. DRAM production is an extremely complex and expensive task. Experts believe that ASUS will partner with an existing manufacturer in this process or work only at the assembling and branding level. It can take a long time to develop the ability to make your own chips realistically.
ASUS has not yet officially confirmed this news. The company has only said that it is keeping an eye on the market conditions. This means that the news is oscillating between rumor and possibility right now.
If ASUS really steps into making DDR5 RAM, it will be a major change in the industry — not just for its products, but also for other brands that have to rely on supply of RAM.
